Know Thyself: The Law of Attraction

- by Michelle P. Jones -

In the new thought philosophy, the Law of Attraction, is the belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person's life. Recently a series of events, random though they seemed, has me contemplating the question “What do I want?” All throughout my life I have followed the suggestions and ideas of others when deciding what I should do and even what I want in life. That is until about 10 years ago! Since then, I have been on a journey of discovery. My journey has led me to discover who I am and what I want out of life! Two things that has eluded me for most of my life!

What I didn't realize is that the moves and the decisions I have been making has led me to the place I am right now. The place where opportunity meets preparation and great things began to happen. In meditation you are instructed to focus on a thought or an object as you seek to clear your heart and mind of the things that have no other purpose but to distract you. As you go through the process and you free your mind, you are able to begin to visualize who you are which leads you to discovering what you want. In a movie I was watching the leading male actor ask the supporting female actor what she wanted, and she responded “…I don't know!” He went on to say “…how can you attract what you want if you don't know what you want?” His question and his following statements have stayed with me. They have caused me to consider my answer to the same question. For me, I want to experience the joy of living my purpose to the fullest, and I want every good thing God has for me as I wholly step into my purpose with intention and confidence. I guess the next question that needs to be asked is “what does that look like for me?” For me it’s existing in the role as an edifier and a generator who doesn't allow her need to be needed to cause her to agree to do things that don't align with her deepest desire and/or purpose. Resulting in me being unaligned spiritually! I know I am to teach and not to take on the responsibility of doing the work for others, especially the work I am teaching them how to do. I want to help authors get out of their own way and discover their why! To help them realize that they are authors by divine design and need to honor it as an extension of who they are!

Just like in my own life, authors (and even people in general) must open themselves up to their Creator and seek the understanding they need to realize who they are and what they want. It is the spiritual connection that helps you visualize, in your mind's eye, what is to happen next in your life. It is when that connection is strengthened that you began to attract what you want into your reality. As you continue your journey to self-discovery in this new year, I challenge you to stop believing what you see and begin seeing what you believe. Begin speaking those things that be not as though they were and watch them materialize in your current reality. Be careful not to speak out of turn and find yourself worse off than before. Don’t allow what you see in other people’s lives to be the lenses you look through in your own life. Why? Because you don’t know what they went through to have what they have.

We all deserve happiness, to have joy and to show and receive love! I challenge you as well as myself to take a step back and meditate on who you are and what you want until you have a clear mental picture of what that looks like! Once you are able to visualize it, speak it out loud daily until it shows up in your reality. Then celebrate every win, whether big or small, and embrace every opportunity that presents itself to ensure you receive what you desire. Knowing what you want and speaking it out into the universe activates your faith while directing your path! Just like the Proverbs 23:7 says, “…as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” Think about it, who we think we are, and what we desire to have in our lives have a way of manifesting itself in our reality. Thereby making it imperative that we know who we are, and what we want to attract to our lives and in our lives to have them manifest themselves in our reality.
