“Neither rain, or snow, nor death of night can keep us from our duty”. This is the original motto that dates back to the days of the original postal carriers, The Pony Express! This motto still stands today for the thousands and thousands of postal workers around the United States. With little exception, such as days with very extreme weather that was experienced over much of the country in the past week, this motto still applies.
Thursday, February 4th is recognized as “National Thank a Mail Carrier Day”. On that day, and actually, every day, we should demonstrate our thanks to our letter carriers – even if it is just a kind word or a post on social media. Maybe you can leave a note of thanks in your mailbox, or a small token of your appreciation, thanking your mail carrier for what we often times take for granted – the fact that our mail shows up every day, when we expect it.
I’m sure that any act of kindness will bring a smile to your mail carrier's face. If you can’t leave a personal acknowledgement, post on social media. Maybe some mail carrier somewhere will see it and they will smile.
When posting on social media, use #thankamailcarrierday so we can see how widespread the thanks comes from.
Let’s spread the love!
