I self-published my first book through Amazon - Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) in 2018. It was an awesome experience but I knew that it wasn't perfect. I decided that I wanted it to be as perfect as possible, so, I began to research. What I found was that there was such a thing as an "Independent Book Publisher". I decided to pursue that. I joined the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), the largest community of professional independent publishers in the United States! IBPA is a not-for-profit membership organization serving the independent publishing community through advocacy and education. With nearly 3,000 members, IBPA is the largest publishing trade association in the United States. I attended the IBPA Publishing University in 2019 and as a result, I got "tooled up" and created a publishing division of my business. Enhanced DNA Publishing was born!
Through Enhanced DNA Publishing, we provide quality publishing services with support from the IBPA resources, their publishing community and the tools/services provided to their members. As an Independent Publisher, Enhanced DNA works with our authors to uphold the highest standards of the publishing industry, to create works of lasting financial and/or cultural value, and to pursue through publishing partners, editorial, design, and production excellence. We use an author-subsidized business model, as opposed to financing all costs themselves, and in exchange return a higher-than-industry-standard share of sales proceeds to the author. In other words, an Independent Publisher makes income from a combination of publishing services and book sales while passing savings to the author.
After the creation of Enhanced DNA Publishing, my personal memoir, If You Really Knew Me: The Life, The Lessons and The Legacy, was republished in 2019, under the Enhanced DNA Publishing "imprint and ISBN" and since then, we have published an additional 12 books under our name! That was the validation and social proof needed to demonstrate that our books are meeting the quality standards AND have amazing content/authors!
